Hip Hop

Richard Andries is Edmonton's most sought after Hip Hop teacher and choreographer. Chris Brown, Ludacris,Boyz II Men, Ashanti, 112, Ginuwine and Shawn Desman are just a few of the international acts that Richard has opened for while performing with his dance group White Chocolate. The group was recently awarded with Top Professional Dance Crew at Canada’s first national hip hop competition Artists Emerge. This was where Richard was presented with the Most Outstanding Dancer title as well as the Icon Award. White Chocolate has also performed at Alberta’s Centennial Celebration for the Queen of England, the 2004 Juno kickoff party and the Universal Records Juno After Party. Richard has toured with hip hop legend Snoop Dogg, as well as rap artist The Game.

Richard has also accompanied Canadian stars Kayle and Gary Beals as a background dancer. With his dynamic style and energetic choreography Richard maintains the true techniques of hip hop including Popping, Locking, Breaking, Tutting and more. This year Richard traveled to Detroit with the Extreme Dance Convention Faculty. There he assisted Bradley Rapier of the "Groovaloos", and was along side of some of Americas finest choreographers including Liz Ramos, Brian Friedman and many more. Richard is currently teaching throughout Alberta and preparing for a dance tour across China with Spice Productions. He continues to train, perform and teach with North America's finest.

Modern

Sarah Adam grew up dancing competitively in Calgary with Foothills Academy of Dance. She then went to Toronto to study at Ryerson University in the Performance Dance program, where she received her BFA with honours. After graduating, Sarah returned to Calgary to train in the pre-professional program at DJD, while dancing with O2 The Dance Company, Corps Bara Dance Theatre, illFX, as a part of Alberta Dance Festival’s, and in Helen Husak's Artist In Residence 2012. She moved to New York in 2013 to further explore the world of dance, studying at Steps on Broadway, Peridance, and Gibney. Sarah performed with a handful of contemporary choreographers, as well as choreographing and producing a full-length show. While in NYC, Sarah enjoyed working with Dancing Classrooms, a company teaching ballroom dance to middle school students as a way to cultivate social-emotional learning. She continues to perform and create, Sarah participated in a residency on Vancouver Island in 2018 and is currently developing a musical for Edmonton Fringe 2019. She is happy to be back in Alberta sharing her love of dance and passion for movement.

Tayla Haswell

Tayla began dancing at the age of 8 with the Ingrid Green Academy of Ballet in Durban, South Africa. She trained solely in Classical Ballet until the age of 13 when herself and her family moved to Canada. Tayla then began training at the Vimy Ridge Academy’s Professional Dance Program through the Edmonton School of Ballet. Here she trained extensively in Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern and Contemporary. During her time with ESB Tayla trained in the Cecchetti method and received her Advanced 1 certificate, she also trained in the RAD method and received her Advanced 2 certificate. Tayla joined the Edmonton Festival Ballet at the age of 14 and thoroughly enjoyed her time as a soloist with the company for 4 years. She is very grateful for all the guest choreographers she was able to work with and the many performance opportunities she had with the company. Throughout her training Tayla was able to attend various training and performance based programs throughout Canada and parts of the USA – including Toronto, Vancouver, New York and many more. Upon graduating from the Vimy Ridge Dance program Tayla was honored to receive the Margret Flynn Award through the Edmonton School of Ballet. She then moved to Sherwood Park and continued her training at Dance Fusion Academy of Dance. The past year training with Fusion has been an incredible experience for her as a student and Tayla is thrilled to be joining the team again this year as a staff member, as well as, balancing her first year of University. Tayla is working towards a career in Occupational Therapy. She is looking forward to the many new and exciting things happening for the studio this year and is honored to be involved!
